The Echelon is a historic building at 422 Cherry Ave in Rochelle, Illinois — a structure that was on the edge of being lost. What began as a restoration project has evolved into something larger: a layered community of businesses, residents, and ideas sharing a single storied address.
Originally constructed in 1908 as a bank, the building has outlasted the institutions that once filled it. Its bones are exceptional — and some of its most remarkable original features have never left. Both bank vaults remain intact and fully in service today, now housed within Down Range Firearms on the ground floor.
The building draws inspiration from the films, stories, and characters that shape how we imagine places worth caring about. There is an intentional atmosphere here — one that rewards those willing to look closely and return often.
Restoration work is ongoing and deliberate. Each phase is approached with care — for the structure, for the tenants, and for the community it sits within. The Echelon is not finished. That is part of the point. What is here now is genuinely excellent, and what is coming has been worth the wait.
Built as a bank over a century ago, The Echelon still holds its original vaults — both fully intact, both still in use. You can find them inside Down Range Firearms. Some things are worth keeping exactly as they are.
